The farm

The Prairerhof farmstead has existed for at least three centuries . For five generations now, the farm has been cultivated and managed by the very large Mair family .

Originally, it was a large farm where fruit growing, wine production, arable farming, and livestock breeding played a significant role. At that time, the farm was managed by its own people and a few employees, such as farmhands and maids. The farm formed the basis of the local food supply and supported several families.

In the 1950s, various agricultural machines were gradually purchased, thus significantly easing the physical work in the fields and in agriculture.

The first guests were welcomed at the Prairerhof in the early 1970s .

Until 1980, the farm still had livestock. Then the operation was converted exclusively to fruit and wine growing . At that time, next to the traditional farmhouse, there was also the barn, the typical farm building.

In 2009 the barn was demolished and a new residential and commercial building was constructed, which offers two modernly furnished apartments in the attic.

The farmhouse houses a family-run bed and breakfast with traditional rooms.

It is particularly important to us to give our guests a closer look at the rural way of life and work. Farm life can be experienced here all year round. Once a week – depending on the season – we offer the opportunity to actively participate in everyday farm life:
Whether it's pruning trees in winter, pest control in spring, hand thinning in summer, harvesting in autumn or much more – anyone who wants to can gain an authentic insight into traditional and modern agriculture at the Prairerhof.
